Hong Kong-born, London-based artist Merry Lamb Lamb shares her new EP ‘Exodus’, via Mad Decent.
Arriving a year after the release of debut album ‘Genesis’, ‘Exodus’ takes the listener on a more cerebral club excursion. Centred around a “courageous story about me stepping out, looking for that utopian dream“, Merry channelled the “pessimistic”, “pretty angry” feelings she experienced during the course of lockdown.
The tracks on ‘Exodus’ are trilingual. The three tongues Merry employs each have a different evocation: calmness in English, directness in Cantonese and poetic profundity in Mandarin. The six tracks tap into the deep well of pent-up emotion Merry felt when in enforced isolation, but are also anchored in her disillusionment with the world around her as a result of her polyglot identity. ‘Exodus’ is ultimately about release; the overstimulated high experienced on the dancefloor through percolating rhythms and fractured breakbeats.
